Alone. Loneliness.

Again and again, there are situations and contexts where you are not alone, yet you feel loneliness. It may originate from a primary inner experience — an experience from the past. Together, we can look at the foundational experience where the feeling was imprinted and create repair and healing there. Together, we can look at "the loneliness of experiencing loneliness alone."

First, we'll establish a sense of safety together — this can take time. Building familiarity and a sense of safety is essential in order to approach a painful place in a protected and caring way. Then, we can locate and access that primary experience "from the past." This is possible through a variety of paths. Together, we'll find the path that fits you.

All the work we do together will also be directed at your brain, creating an expansive experience that changes the connections within it. The work will be done while safeguarding you, so that you don't reach a state of distress. The goal of therapy is not to create relief through harm. Therapy requires strength and can be a significant challenge at times. But first and foremost, therapy must be a safe space so that working together is possible. If we are in suffering together, we won't be able to create safety and effective work for you — which is why I believe the work should be gentle even when it is demanding, and that ideally, we should also enjoy our time together.

Perhaps we'll use EMDR to process the trauma. Perhaps we'll do chair work to create inner support. Perhaps we'll work through imagination by reconstructing the experience in the safe environment we create together. There are many paths, and we'll search together for the one that fits you. Our goal is for the feeling of being alone to be less overwhelming in your day-to-day life.
